From September to May, we meet on Monday nights from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the chapel classrooms, gym, and kitchen. Our meetings consist of Christian fellowship, Bible lessons, memory verses, and various age-appropriate activities that make Christ more real to the members of this club. As in traditional scouting organizations, the girls get awards and badges for their service.
In addition, for about a week each summer, they all take a trek up to Camp Cherith in the Adirondacks.
Pioneer Girls welcomes members at each grade level, and for each grade there are 3 or 4 guides who help lead the girls and provide examples for them to follow. In fact, each guide fills out an application for their position, and also must give a personal testimony. For example,
"I (Tina) was looking for a place where my daughter could find solid Christian teaching and good relationships with her peers. One day I stopped by a Pioneer Girls meeting and saw caring fellowship, fun, and exciting Bible teaching. I was sold (and so was my daughter)."
Quote from a mother of three who loves Pioneer Girls:
"God called me to serve in this ministry, and despite the amount of work involved, He has given me the strength, patience, and love to handle that which otherwise would overwhelm me. And to realize that so many girls come back year after year, some even to become guides because they love it so much, leads me to the assurance that we're doing a good thing here. For some girls, there is no coming back, and their tears of departure witness the love they've come to know with their friends and with their Lord Jesus."
